What's Nearby - Loire Valley Information Sources

As a good starting point, visit France Guide, the official tourist guide for France.

To find out more about what there is to see and to do in the region, you can go to the Touraine Tourist Office site. You might also like to visit the France Keys site which has both information about the area and useful pointers to further sources.

It is useful to know about the Départements (regions) of France - we're in 37 (Indre et Loire), but also close is 41 (Loire et Cher). These links take you to tourist sites with additional information about attractions in the area.

In the house there we have a large collection of folders and brochures about places to go and things to do. We welcome additions so if there are things you know about that should be either on the web site or in the folders, please let us know.

The Countryside

To see some striking panoramic photographs of the area, have a look at this collection by the photographer Jaroslav Poncar.

The Weather

The weather around Lavignon tends to be more gentle and warmer than the UK or the Netherlands. Summers can be very hot and dry, winters cool and wet - we usually get a sprinkling of snow which only lasts a day or two. La Grange sits at the bottom of a small valley cut into a plateau which means that strong winds only affect us when they blow from the (south) west, otherwise they blow right over our heads!

There are a number of Internet sites where you can find weather predictions for the area. The most informative one seems to be MeteoFrance, but there is also MeteoConsult and AccuWeather. With so many to choose from, you can usually find one that tells you what you want to hear!
