Around the House
There is a small
barbeque, and there will probably be some
charcoal and lighters too. We ask our guests to use
whatever consumables they find in the house (salt, sugar,
charcoal, detergent, whatever), and to replace anything
that they use up so that there are always all the
essentials when other guests arrive.
There is
garden furniture (chairs and
tables) which you can use pretty well anywhere in the
garden: sit under the walnut tree, move up into the orchard
for shade, or use it on the terrace in the evening.
Just across the road (well, it's more a country lane) we
have
parking for two cars.
The Well
Next to the parking spot, just
across the road from La Grange, there is a little
stone house. It's actually a well which I use in the
summer to water the garden. It's 85cms in diameter and
about 7m deep. A couple of years ago the water level
was falling, it dropped 2m in four years, although now
it seems to be recovering slowly.
The Wine Cellar
There's a tempting little brown
(locked!) door at the edge of the lawn. That's our wine
cellar, built relatively recently by a previous owner, it's
just a concrete box maybe 3m square buried under the hill
behind it. It is guarded by a toad which has been there
since we can remember - whenever we go in he is just inside
the door barring the way to trespassers!
