The story of La Grange
La Grange in Lavignon is what is left of a wine-making building, dating (we think!) from the 17th century. By good fortune I met a couple of elderly gentlemen who remembered the house as children, when our house was a simple farmhouse, half reserved for the animals and the other half for the farmer and his family. On the same piece of land there was a large barn which was used for making wine, they even remembered where the wine press was! Since then, the wine making building has all but disappeared, the remaining walls form the perimeter of a lawn in front of La Grange. La Grange is based on the remains of what must have been an outbuilding belonging to the wine making building. We bought it in 1991, in the house there are some pictures of what it used to look like then. We have now converted it into a comfortable holiday home, a gîte, a relaxing home-from-home in the Loire Valley.
